About Chris Volpe
About the Artist: Chris Volpe:
My Artwork:
In its simplest form I am a reference photo artist.
What does this mean?
I use references to create my artwork from photos of people, animals, sculptures etc...
I have been drawing since I was in High School; comic books were my initial gateway to art.
I graduated from high school and attended Pratt Institute located in downtown Brooklyn (before the area was trendy!).
After one year of formal art schooling I traded in my art ambitions and stopped drawing altogether to focus on a more traditional education and career for the next 20 years.
In those 20 years I battled cancer and won, married the girl next door (that is another story for another day!), attained a Masters Degree and gave life to 4 little people (my kids), who stumbled upon my old artwork from high school, their wide eyed wonder is what re-ignited my passion for art.
Now for the last 3 years I have been pushing my boundaries in the graphite pencil medium where I am always evolving and changing techniques, most recently testing my techniques with color based drawings.
My artwork is a part of me, as I am a part of it and every piece is a fully vested emotional work.
